Rooms With a View - the new LOA studio space!
by: admin
Hey gang! It's really turning out to be a busy 1st quarter for everyone here at LOA. We just finished working on Brownman Revival's latest 6-song EP which will be out very soon under Sony Music, and you'll probably hear the lead single Hitik sa Bunga very very soon, which promises to be a crazy LSS-ish song that'll dig in deep into your unconscious mind!
If you've been to the studio recently (as in, January 2010), you'll notice we're more of a mess than usual. It's not because we've gotten lazy at housekeeping, but it's because we're renovating! That's right folks, we're moving into a new room in the FRDC building that has nice high ceilings and a romantic view of C5/Libis! The design and layout is pure DIY, but since we don't know how to hammer things (although Ross does some hammering of his own in his alone time), we're working with an in-law to get all the woodworking done. Here are some photos of that fateful February Saturday when we moved all the stuff in the Control Room to its temporary location in our production suite:
1. I have a hard time believing that we've been up and running for 3 years already (albeit adding rooms and gear piece by piece as time went by), so as you can imagine leaving that tiny control room was a tearjerking experience!
2. Look at that mess of cables! I enjoy disconnecting and reconnecting cables because it keeps my mind really sharp, just like a game of Sudoku. I don't enjoy untangling cables though, so it's a good thing Ross has a cable fetish, that is, he gets aroused at the sight of messy cables. He says it's a psychological thing.
3. We transferred the comptuer and monitor + outboard gear setup to the Production Room temporarily, but opted not to place the Mackie mixer anymore for a more streamlined workflow and spacious work area. In this dramatic photograph, Ross appears to be examining our Radial DI box
4. There's so much space behind the desk that Ross and Edu can actually perform jokes! Perfect for mixing sessions when we're under a tight deadline and they want to be especially annoying!
5. Here's a dramatic photograph of Edu in the Production Room. Since the room itself is longer than the old control room and doesn't contain any of that weird white stuff on the walls (not sperm) for treatment, it sounds livelier and easier to mix in. Plus, there're windows so we get a lot of nice afternoon sun for those extra long sessions.
I'll post some photos of the new rooms as they get constructed. Right now I have to go finish my chicken mushroom pie merienda and get some more work done.
Happy Valentine's!
xoxo
